SU Founder's Day Gala tonight | Business
The Southern University Alumni Federation will host its Sixth Annual Founders Day Gala, tonight, Friday, March 9, in commemoration of the University’s 132 years of providing educational opportunities to students from across the globe. To celebrate this milestone, the Federation will honor four outstanding alumni, and six organizations that support the university.
The gala event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m. with presentations following at 7:30 p.m. in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union, Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge.
The Alumni Federation’s Founders Day Gala is an annual event that honors alumni and supporters who have been instrumental fulfilling the mission of Southern University. Begun in 2007, the gala also is a fundraising project that draws support and participation from alumni and friends across Louisiana and America. The proceeds benefit scholarships and alumni programs.
“This is an exciting time as we recognize the founding of Southern University and to simply come together to say "thank you" to our alums and supporters for continuing the mission of our great institution of higher learning,” said Dennis S. Brown, national president of the Southern University Alumni Federation.
The 2012 honorees include:
Attorney Cleo Fields, former US congressman and former state legislator
Dilcie Green, leader in alumni grassroots support
Louis Henry Jr., alumnus and owner of Franchise Food Systems of Minnesota
Irving Matthews, alumnus and owner of Prestige Ford of Florida
Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus
Sixth Man Club
SU Baseball Boosters Club
Blue and Gold Century Club
A Nation Of Dominance (ANOD)
“This year’s Gala is an especially important occasion as the SU Alumni Federation is celebrating its 65th anniversary of service and support to the University,” added Robyn Merrick, SU System director of Alumni Affairs.
