Trader Joe's groundbreaking set for the Fall | Business
Construction on the new Trader Joe’s will begin this fall. The California grocery store chain is scheduled to open in 2013 at the corner of Perkins Road and Acadian Thruway in Baton Rouge.
"There are 300 stores across the country," says Tina Rance with Commercial Properties Realty Trust. "It's an upscale grocery store that carry their own brands and publish their own newsletter."
Officials recently announced the unique neighborhood grocery store with food and beverages ranging from the everyday to the exotic was opening its first Louisiana location at Acadian Village.
The 13,000-square-foot store will feature festive decor that mixes traditional Trader Joe’s elements such as cedar covered walls and Hawaiian motifs, combined with local touches that include art celebrating the neighborhood. Trader Joe’s offers more than 1,000 items under its private label, which includes Trader Jose’s salsas, Trader Ming’s fried rice and Trader Giotto’s marinara sauces, as well as specially purchased international foods.
Trader Joe’s will be an anchor of Acadian Village.
As a destination store, it’s expected to draw shoppers from across South Louisiana. In business since 1958, the company now operates 370 stores in 33 states.
