Southern University's Human Jukebox Marching Band has been practicing for more than three weeks now getting ready for the big show on Sunday, Feb. 3.
The band along with the Dancing Dolls, about 200 students, will be performing a six-minute routine for the pre-game show at the Superbowl in New Orleans at the Mercedes Benz Superdome.
“We’re pumped up,” Band Director Lawrence Jackson tells 9News Neighborhoods. “We’re going to set the tone for an exciting football game.”
Jackson says the routine will end with a second line to celebrate Mardi Gras.
This is the band’s fourth appearance at the Superbowl. The Dancing Dolls performed last year.
“It’s always exciting,” Jackson says. “To be selected to perform on the grand stage is truly a win-win for the university and the entire state of Louisiana.
The game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens will start at 5:30 p.m. on WAFB Channel 9.
