Southern hosting "Stop the Violence March" Tuesday | Events

BATON ROUGE -Southern University’s Black History Club, Criminal Justice Club, NCAAP and Student Government Association will host a “Stop the Violence March” on Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
Following the march, students will join Southern University Law Center students in front of the Law Center for a Trayvon Martin Candlelight Vigil set to begin after the march.
The events will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the death of 17-year-old Martin who was killed in his neighborhood in Sanford, Florida while walking home from a convenience store.
Southern students and members of the surrounding community will gather in the Smith-Brown Memorial Union courtyard at 4:30 p.m. The march will begin at 5 p.m. It will proceed down E.C. Harrison Drive and end at the Southern Law Center.
“We are trying to bring community awareness and outreach as well as a message to stop the violence in Baton Rouge,” said Willie McCorkle, president of the Student Government Association.
