EBR to kick off annual Christmas tree recycling program

EBR to kick off annual Christmas tree recycling program

The Christmas tree recycling program will offer curbside collection for East Baton Rouge residents, except in Baker and Zachary. Several drop-off locations will also be available.

Recycling Director Susan Hamilton said that Allied Waste will collect Christmas trees placed on the curb between Jan. 9 and Jan. 22.

“The trees will be collected in rear loaders or brush trucks on the resident’s trash collection day in a separate pass, stated Hamilton.  “The Christmas trees are then delivered to Natural Resources Recovery, Inc., the city-parish woody-waste recycling contractor, where they are processed into compost or mulch,” Hamilton continued.

Christmas trees should be placed at the curb separate from other unbundled trash and woody waste.

Want to be on HGTV?

HGTV's "Bang for your Buck" is looking for fun and enthusiastic homeowners in the Baton Rouge area.

They're looking for residents who have done some major renovations in the past three years and multiple spaces are preferred such as kitchens and great rooms, master suites and room expansions, exteriors, or an entire floor.

Three Homes will be selected. The homeowners will have the opportunity to tell about their new renovations and what they love about them. Then an HGTV design expert and local real estate expert will tour each space and evaluate the design, the materials, and the overall feel of the space to determine how the renovation impacts each home’s value and who got the most bang for their buck. Viewers and homeowners will walk away with expert design tips, inspiring ideas, and a wish list for their next renovation!

Taping will begin soon after the homeowners are selected and will last for two days. If you’re interested, please apply immediately. The deadline is Tuesday, February 1.
