ZACHARY, LA (WAFB)- Drug-sniffing
police dogs roamed the halls of Zachary High School on Thursday.
According
to students, the son of a Zachary High teacher was sent home after drug dogs
found three bags of marijuana in his car.
School
officials said the Zachary Police Department conducts random drug searches
three times a year.
While
officials did not identify the student, they said they will not tolerate drugs
anywhere on school property.
"I
would get me a broomstick, go to that school and beat the you know what out of
my child because I don't approve of it," said Panithia Johnson, the
grandparent of a student at the school.
Several
people said they are surprised about the arrest, especially since Zachary is
the top school district in the state.
The school
handbook reportedly states students in possession of illegal drugs should be
recommended for expulsion.
School
officials said the appropriate punishment will be given.
