BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB)- A 16-year-old who was shot in early May has now died from the wound and charges will be upgraded against the suspect.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said Mary Johnson of Baker died Thursday from a gunshot that happened May 5.
Detectives said the teen was shot in the back of the neck when she walked away from a man after refusing to have sex with him.
The shooting happened in the 3700 block of Topeka Street in Baton Rouge shortly after midnight.
The shooting left the victim paralyzed from the neck down.
Dedric White, 18, of Baton Rouge was arrested May 24 and charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Authorities said the charges will be upgraded to second-degree murder.
