CENTRAL, LA (WAFB)- Students at Central Private School donned blue ties to pay tribute to Louisiana's fallen heroes.
Students also listened to real-life war stories during the program, which honored men and women from Louisiana killed in the line of duty since September 11, 2001.
Each of the students' blue ties had the name of a fallen soldier, giving them a personal connection to someone they never knew.
"It means a lot because it's showing his family that we're honoring him and no one's forgot about him and we're remembering all the people who've died for our country," said CPS Student Aubrey Dean.
Seventy students were picked to wear those blue ties.
Wounded warrior and Central Private graduate Sgt. Bobby Westbrook shared his story with the students, as did members of Gold and Blue Star Families.
"It really brings things into perspective, as to how many people have actually served from your own community, even if you may not realize it," said Sgt. Westbrook.
